Renewals

The book I borrowed is due now, can I renew it? 
Yes, you can. Your book will be automatically renewed for you up to 3 times if no else has requested it.

Why didn't my book renew?

You may have reached your maximum renewals, or someone else might have requested that book. 

Can I renew my Reserve item?

Unfortunately you can not renew a Reserve item. 

The AV Equipment I borrowed is due, can I renew it?
No, sorry, you have to return it before it is overdue. Especially laptops and iPads.

Can I renew my InterLibrary Loan (ILL)?

Please email ill@vcc.ca to ask if your interlibrary loan can be renewed.

Fines

I borrowed a book from the library and I'm late returning it. Will I get a fine if I return it late?

If the book is from our regular collection, you won't get a fine.

I am returning a Reserves item late. Will I get a fine?

Yes, you will be charge $1.00 per hour that this item is overdue. Please return the Reserves items on time.

I borrowed a laptop and it's overdue. How much is the fine?

You will be fined $5.00 per day that it's late.

Borrowing

How can I place a hold on a book that I want?

To place a Takeout order, please follow these steps: 

  1. Find the item in the VCC library Catalogue 
  2. Select Request it 
  3. Log in with your myVCC login 
  4. Select a pickup location: Broadway or Downtown 
  5. Submit your request.

Please note: You can't place holds on the Reserves Collection. 

Is there a limit to the number of items I can borrow? 
Yes. The limit is 20 requests and 20 items. 

Can I borrow a Course Reserves? 
Yes, you can! They are now only available on a first-come first-serve basis, with varying loan periods. You can only borrow 5 Reserves at a time.

If the textbook I need is unavailable from the library, where can I get my textbooks for my courses?
You can purchase these online from VCC bookstore

We are currently working towards acquiring eTextbooks for some of the programs, but we are unsure if and when these will be available. You can contact us at libraryhelp@vcc.ca with your requests. 

Please contact your instructor to let them know that you are having trouble accessing the materials for your course, and to see if they have any solutions. 

Can I borrow books through Interlibrary Loan?
Yes, we are providing full ILL service again. You can place your ILL request here. If you have any questions you can email ill@vcc.ca.

If I can’t find a copy of the book I want to borrow right away, what do I have access to?
You still have access to all our article databases  and eBooks

Returns

Where can I return my book?

Books can be returned through the book-drop at either campus.  The Broadway book-drop can be accessed at any time, 24/7.  The Downtown book-drop can be accessed Monday - Friday: 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Saturday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday and Holidays: Closed

How can I return my AV equipment (laptop, iPad, etc)?

Please return any any AV Equipment in person, at the front desk, at either the Downtown or Broadway campus during the hours that we are open.
Monday – Thursday, from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Fridays 8:00 AM - 4: 00 PM.

Removing the hold on your account

I am trying to register for a course, but there is a hold on my student account due to library fines. Can you please remove the hold on my account?

Please email us at libraryhelp@vcc.ca, and include your name and student number. We will look into this as soon as we can, and get back to you as quickly as possible during business hours.
