Applying a Critical Theory to a Work of Fiction, Film, etc.
- Read your assignment closely. The critical theory summaries are very useful and a great starting point.
- Think about the main concepts of your critical theory, and the people behind them
- Select a work of fiction, film, etc and decide which theory best applies to this work
- Read about your theory in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
- Search the library discovery layer (catalogue) for resources on your theory and/or theorists
- Search the databases - JSTOR, LION
- Consider how aspects of the theory apply to your primary source
