Kaltura is available to VCC students and employees, at no cost.

Techsmith Capture (formerly Jing) - free screencast software. Download required, so best for home computers.

Screencast-o-matic - Free to record; Deluxe version required to edit (about $30 Canadian annually, as of summer 2020).
Chrome or Firefox appear to work best. Free version has Screencast-o-matic watermark. Currently offering one-month free trial.

Zoom - record yourself in a single-person meeting, while sharing your screen - now you have a screencast!

Install Kaltura

Kaltura Capture is screenrecording software available to VCC students and employees. VCC employees can register to take a CTLR course for more information. Get started by following the instructions below (2:25). Note that the first time you use Kaltura Capture, it may ask you to open it from MediaSpace.

 

The video below (4:50) demonstrates recording a webcam/screencapture video, uploading it to VCC MediaSpace, and then submitting it as an assignment in Moodle. Note that the first time you use Kaltura Capture, it may ask you to open it from MediaSpace.

Camtasia - Has a powerful editing tool. One month free trial available. If you choose to purchase, ($235 for post-secondary users) download & install on your computer (not a 'cloud' subscription service like Screencast-o-matic).  

Screenflow - For Mac, free trial available.
