First Voices: Language Legacies Celebrating Indigenous Cultures

  • FirstVoices is a suite of web-based tools and services designed to support Aboriginal people engaged in language archiving, language teaching & culture revitalization.
  • The FirstVoices Language Archive contains thousands of text entries in many diverse Aboriginal writing systems, enhanced with sounds, pictures and videos.
  • A companion set of interactive online games is designed to present the archived FirstVoices language data in creative learning activities.
  • Some language archives at FirstVoices are publicly accessible, while others are password protected at the request of the language community.

Revitalizing Indigenous Languages /SFU 

  • Indigenous Languages Centre is working with Indigenous organizations across B.C. to revitalize and preserve the region's rich linguistic heritage.
  • Tlli7sa Storybook app
    • The Tlli7sa Storybook mobile and web application is inspired by James Teit’s version of The Shuswap, Franz Boas’s version and G. M. Dawson’s version. It was made with the help of a recording that Dr. Marianne Ignace created with Louisa Basil in 1986.
