The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) has released these publications to help teachers assess whether they may copy and use resources by applying the tenets of fair dealing.
The use of copyrighted materials in Canada is governed by the Copyright Act. In addition, the College has adopted the Fair Dealing Guidelines from Colleges and Institutes of Canada (CICan), and has set forth policy which outlines the responsibilities of all employees and students in the use of copyright protected materials.
To ensure copyright compliance in the use and copying of copyrighted materials at Vancouver Community College, employees and students will need to determine if they are permitted to use the copyrighted work as they would like to. Consult the FAQ tab for specific questions.
1. VCC Copyright Policy and Procedures
2. Fair Dealing Guidelines (Colleges and Institutes Canada)
3. Copyright Act (RSC, 1985, c C-42)
4. Licensed Databases and e-Resources - Check "terms of use" from within each database.
When the use of copyrighted works is not permissible under the above, permission to use the material must be sought from the copyright holder. To initiate a copyright clearance request, consult with Virginia Adams, Copyright, Coordinator (vadams@vcc.ca)
